Steady as the moonlight

Last year I set myself a theme word. “Generosity”. You can read more about how and why I chose this word, and some thoughts as the year came to a close on how it deeply transformed me.

I love setting a yearly theme word as apposed to a new years resolution.  I find that resolutions come without much thought, planning, or intention.  It’s like we get to the end of one year, realize we want things to be different, and in an act of desperation we “resolve” to make a change.  Hence the busy gyms and yoga studios these days LOL  However, few of us take the time to think through the real motivation to set the resolution, how is it that we are choosing to feel, and what actions we will take to ensure that we see it through all year long.

I prefer setting a Theme Word.  It’s more in alignment with setting an intention for the entire year ahead and I choose this word based on how I want to feel, what I am cultivating inside of myself, and how I want to experience the world around me.

That said, I’ve also set a New Year’s Resolution this year 😉  But I’ll talk about that in more detail in my next post.

This year my theme word is STEADY.

The Free Dictionary dot com defines steady:

  1. Firm in position or place; fixed.
  2. Direct and unfaltering; sure.
  3. Free or almost free from change, variation, or fluctuation; uniform: a steady increase in value; a steady breeze.
  4. Not easily excited or upset: steady nerves.
  5. Unwavering, as in purpose; steadfast.
  6. Reliable; dependable.
  7. Temperate; sober.

When I was in deep meditation over my word for this year I considered a few different words, knowing how it was I was choosing to feel this year, especially with how I found myself feeling at the end of last year.  I knew I needed to cultivate discipline, dedication, and unquestioning resolve in all that I do, and most especially in the work that I do.  I knew that I wanted to feel more focused.  I also knew that I wanted to send a consistent message out to the Universe and to my tribe on what my work is all about.

I looked up the definition of this word and two things stood out to me as hitting a home run; unwavering in purpose, and the word “sober”.  (More on why the word Sober is so important to me, soon!)

I do feel unwavering in my purpose.  However, it’s a challenge to keep chugging along trying to get some momentum.  Most of what I do, I do on my own.  I have to motivate myself, and I have to dust myself off when things don’t go the way I had hoped they would.  Keeping the word Steady at the forefront of my mind helps me feel supported by my own inner wisdom and guidance.

Kept steady.  Keep going.

So that’s what I plan to do!
