Welcome to A Paleo Yogi!
My name is Christine and I am a Yoga Teacher, Massage Therapist, Lifestyle Coach and a carnivore/veggivore! But I haven’t always lived this life. Today I do what I love, I practice what I preach, I live a happily and healthfully active lifestyle, and eat nutrient dense, energizing and TASTY food.
Only a few years ago, things were different. I was fit, going to the gym five times a week. On top of that I practiced yoga a few times a week. I ran outdoors. I did kickboxing workouts. I had a gym, yoga studio, outdoor and home DVD workout regime. I worked out twice a day, but often more. I lost about 25 pounds and I wore a size 5.
I tracked my calorie intake and I worked out more and more to accommodate too much alcohol in my diet. I slept ok, I stressed a lot and I stayed in an abusive relationship for 7 years. I worked in an office doing things I simply didn’t feel connected to.
On one hand, I was a machine! On the other, everything was falling apart.
I had a pretty good idea what I should be doing to be a happy healthy person. But I found negative ways of bringing those things into my life. I had a poor body image and I obsessed over calories. I ate well most of the time but would over eat and over drink far too often. My self-value was low. I didn’t see why I would want anything other than what my husband provided me – including mental and emotional abuse.
Then by stroke of a series of very unfortunate events, I was free of that relationship.
In my new found freedom, I tried CrossFit. Then I discovered Paleo. And most importantly, I began my Yoga Teacher Training.
The cycle had been broken. Even though old patterns were breaking, I found it difficult to take on new patterns and hold on to them. I continued to drink too much with only gradual decreases over a period of years. I tried Paleo – but for a while I continued to track calories (wow was that ever discouraging! DO NOT try tracking calories while eating a Paleo diet!) And I entered a new romantic relationship that was kinder and healthier – but for a year I refused to recognize how mismatched we nonetheless were.
It has been 4 years since I left my ex husband. It’s been almost as long since I (first) read It Starts With Food. 3 years of teaching yoga, and now over 2 years of teaching and being a Massage Therapist full time. It has also been over 2 years that I have been with the man of my dreams. He is beyond my expectations!
There were many moments when I still struggled to manage my turbulent emotions, and many more where I couldn’t figure out how to manage my time. But I made it. To here. A place further along on my journey. Not at the destination, because where is that anyway? End of life? No no no, I am FULL of life and living each moment with curiosity and passion.
I am comfortable and proud of my body. I eat food that nourishes and energizes me. I drink far less alcohol and exercise several times a week – not a day. I no longer measure my success by a number on the scale, or in my waist band. Or at the stats on my calorie tracker app. I measure my success now by my level of Joy and Peace.
We “know” what we need to do. We “know” we need to eat better. Exercise better. Sleep better. Manage our stress and emotions better. Spend better time with the ones we love. Spend better time doing the things we love. We need to have cleaner houses, and eat at home more. We need to play with our kids more.
Doesn’t it all just sound so exhausting? To change all of it? We know we will feel better. More confident. Happier. More rested and more full-filled. But to take it all on at once can be an overwhelming feat.
30 or 90 day programs may work really well for some, but for the rest of us the all or nothing approach sets us up to fall flat on our faces.
It took me 4 years to get here. I can help you find a smoother and shorter path to a similar place.
I don’t promise schemes to help you lose weight fast, or get rich fast or anything else fast. What I do promise is that through individual assessment we can establish changes that are right for you, prioritize them, and take on one sustainable change at a time. We can travel that road together and find ourselves somewhere along a path towards a happier, healthier and more balanced version of you.
Through personalized assessment, one-on-one coaching, and guidance and community along the way, we can do this together.
Welcome to A Paleo Yogi and thank you for taking this journey with me!
